Julie has a great ability to learn. She adhered to my instructions and the outcome of her drawing experience throughout my class is evident by the increased awareness about perception and drawing. She definitely improved in such a short time. We spent 3 weeks at 3 hours per session and her ability to understand the concepts of perception and apply them was remarkable. Good Job Julie!!

Summer Drawing Class: Upside Down Drawing by Gabby

Gabby did a near perfect copy of the Stravinsky drawing by Picasso. The assignment was to draw the drawing upside down.

Summer Drawing Class: Marilyn's Upside Down Drawing

Marilyn created this drawing on our second day of class. The assignment was to copy a Picasso that was displayed upside down. By flipping the original drawing upside down, the Right side takes over and the features of the body become shape, line, form, etc. which is the aesthetic language.

Our last class focused on drawing light & shadows by drawing an in-class still life. Gabby really gained a sense of form through her observations of light & shadows.

Gabby had already had considerable drawing skills before she took my class. Her confidence with adding tone to her drawings increased as the class continued.

Jessica has sensitive line work which adds so much detail to her drawings. She gained the courage to draw toward the end of our classes after being taught a few skills. Her biggest comment was that "She Can See Now!"

Hallie Tedeschi: Great Artist, Great Hands!

Hallie Tedeschi, whom I am well aquainted with, took my class recently. She is a very talented teenager looking to make art a career. So I wasn't sure I would be able to teach her anything new but I think I did. Above are the before and after drawings of her hands. I think she got something out of my class. Thanks Hallie for hanging in there!

Drawing Class: Lynne Comtois Hand Drawings

I just finished a teaching Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain recently. This class was so responsive to my teachings. It shows in their work. Here is the before and after drawing of Lynne Comtois's hand. Good job Lynne!

Here is a drawing I did with a Sharpie while waiting for my student to arrive for a session of figure studio. This was a 5 minute drawing.

Recently I have been giving private art lessons to a college student. A month ago he did not know how to draw the figure. We spent our time drawing the figure in public places around town but they of course were clothed. Tonight we were able to draw from a live model at Silver Circle Studio here in Putnam, CT. We spent two hours with the figure and these are the results.

We started with the structure and worked on proportions.

Portrait of Model: 6.21.11

The other night I went to figure drawing studio and I was able to capture the portrait of our model. This is a reasonable likeness of him. It felt good to draw from life for once. I usually spend my days drawing in my naive style.
